Trafalgar Court, Wapping Wall, London E1W 3TF
Welcome to the website of the Trafalgar Court Residents Association. It is a resource aimed primarily at the owners and tenants of the properties but aspiring buyers or renters will also find useful information. A list of local estate agents can be found here.
Trafalgar Court on the Thames waterfront is home to a group of 68 flats. The apartments were built on a site that was once a wharf used by commercial shipping. Work was completed in 1991. The freehold of the buildings, gardens and surrounding walkway was bought in 1994 by the Trafalgar Court Residents' Association, whose shareholders are the owners of the individual flats. An engineer who worked on site in the late 80s sent us this picture. It shows the balconies being retro-fitted - they were not part of the original design. Tom Lawlor also recalls going to a scrapyard in Portsmouth to find and buy the anchor, now a centrepiece of the gardens. It was next to a disused submarine.
Our neighbours in the cobbled streets of Wapping Wall
Next door to Trafalgar Court is The Prospect of Whitby, reputed to be London's oldest riverside tavern and dating from about 1520. 'Hanging' Judge Jeffreys adopted it as his favourite hostelry in the 17th century and a noose still hangs close to a rear window. |
On the opposite side of the road is the Wapping Hydraulic Power Station, formerly a restaurant (Wapping Food) and arts centre (the Wapping Project) but now awaiting restoration and development. Further down Wapping Wall is Metropolitan Wharf, a converted eight storey Grade II Listed Victorian warehouse and home to Bottega Deli, and Il Bordello, an Italian restaurant. To the rear of Trafalgar Court in Glamis Road is Shadwell Basin, home of the Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activity Centre, and the King Edward's VII Memorial Park with its gardens, tennis courts and bowling green._ |
